<rellla> hi nove
<nove> rellla: hi
<nove> rellla: just wanted to ask you if in this last 2 week, you were contacted by a hardware-vendor that wanted to offer you a board?
<rellla> no.
Nacho__ has joined #linux-sunxi
<nove> rellla: so that support for cedrus could be added
<rellla> just a guy from cubietech, asking for some help on making xbmc work with new aw media codec code
<rellla> have you seen the initial patches from wens regarding cedrus?
<nove> rellla: ok, that is it, i also didn't have any other replies, from the initial email, even when this email ended by asking "if we wanted to talk?"
bmeneg has quit [Quit: WeeChat 0.4.2]
<rellla> he personally announced interest in open source ve adn offered help, so i ended with: first join the community (ml or irc), then let's see.
<rellla> and i said, that anyone here will be interested in hacking some kodi around AW media code or blobs via libhybris.
<rellla> *nobody
<nove> rellla: cubietech should go ask to the developers of that popular media player, it is not our fault or our task, if those developer are boycotting allwinner hardware because of the insufficient cooperation gotten from allwinner , what?, already 3 year ago
<libv> libhybris again
<libv> *sigh*
<libv> thanks jolla and collabora.
<rellla> nove: he didn't say, that it is our fault but "knows" what the community has already done.
<rellla> but i think, that company will go the "easy" way. fast and hacky kodi for their devices. via linux or android blobs :(
<rellla> team-xbmc won't invest any time in bringing kodi to allwinner. they know the history.

<nove> rellla: about the patches of the need clocks for the video engine
<nove> rellla: i didn't have the time, the last time i looked at the kernel was at version 3.18
<NiteHawk> rellla: maybe the C.H.I.P. (based on R8) can get another foot in that door? it'll be interesting to see how they (nextthing) are going to handle that
<nove> rellla: the laziness is terrible, and my priority is to first make something useful of the tool that i said i was thinking about
<libv> NiteHawk: afaict, they are not too keen on being further associated with linux-sunxi
<libv> how dare we have made things difficult for them with allwinners gpl violations...
<libv> now they have to try to appear all open.
<NiteHawk> libv: they'd still have to live up (to an unknown degree) to their own promises made? i.e. that "being open"
<libv> probably not, but they definitely are working on a very parallel universe
<libv> i still have not seen a chip device page for instance
<rellla> nove: may memory is terrible :) what was that tool again?
<rellla> NiteHawk: i don't know, what they tasked to externs already ...
<nove> rellla: is hard to explain, because i don't know what i am doing, just experimenting in what can be done, to help the task (of writing the driver be more easy)

<nove> rellla: up to now, the best that can be described is as, a qemu based mmio access tracer of dubious usefulness
<rellla> :)
<nove> rellla: simply, a tool to easy check if the right value is been written to the right place
<nove> rellla: dubious - because is not real hardware, but a virtual machine, usefullness - because it would take look of work to make it usefull
<nove> rellla: and that is were i am stuck

<Emaranhado> Hi! Anyone on and available to help a noob?
<Emaranhado> Well, I'll leave the question here... I got my hands on a unbranded android smartbox. I just opened it and I saw that it does have an A10s chip. In the board, it was written "ST-g1-A10S VER:2.1". It also had a date (2013/01/29).
<Emaranhado> I spent some time in the wiki and I could see that model number and the Kernel version was pretty similar to the "Semitime g2". The only difference was the number after the # in the Kernel Version, which the Semitime g2 in the wiki had a 6 and mine has a 4. The date after it is also different.
<Emaranhado> My build number is different too, being elite_nm307_v11-eng 4.0.4 IMM76D 20130302 test-keys
<Emaranhado> I just wanted to know if it is possible to run a linux distro with GUI from an external hd or from sd card
<Emaranhado> if it is possible, is there a build I could use or should I make one?
<Emaranhado> I tried to follow the tutorial about bringing in a new device, but I dont have a serial console and I'm not familiar with those
bmeneg has quit [Quit: WeeChat 1.3]
<deskwizard> Well, consider that coming from another noob, but the first thing to do would be to gather as much as you can from what you have now
<deskwizard> ie partition table, kernel config, fex config, those kinda things
<deskwizard> what wifi (if any)
<Emaranhado> I don't know how I can get those info
<Emaranhado> and yes, it does have wifi
<deskwizard> Emaranhado, ever used adb before?
<Emaranhado> well, only when debugging on android
<deskwizard> you can use that
<deskwizard> well, assuming the thing is running android at the moment
<Emaranhado> yes, it is
mstar has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<Emaranhado> I don't know how I would link it to my pc, tho
<deskwizard> oh
<Emaranhado> I tried connecting both usbs to my pc, and it didn't quite work
<deskwizard> oh okay
robogoat has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<deskwizard> well
robogoat has joined #linux-sunxi
<Emaranhado> the box has two usbs, pretty similar to the Pineriver h24
<deskwizard> play store -> terminal emulator
<Emaranhado> already got that :D
<deskwizard> wish my memory was better...
<deskwizard> 'cat /proc/partitions'
<deskwizard> something like that
<deskwizard> anyone that want to correct me feel free to do so :P
<deskwizard> or try 'cat /etc/recovery.fstab'
<deskwizard> never worked on 4.0.4
<deskwizard> (I mean, I never used 4.0.4 on AW)
<deskwizard> and honestly, you're going to want a serial console
<Emaranhado> I wish I had one
<Emaranhado> but I don't know if I could get the courage to try that
<deskwizard> no pads at all anywhere to solder one ?
<Emaranhado> I'm really bad at soldering
<Emaranhado> nope, no pads at all
<deskwizard> the bastards
<Emaranhado> why make things easier when you can complicate them, right?
<deskwizard> lol welcome to chinese SoC ...
<Emaranhado> hahahaha
<deskwizard> the only reason I like allwinner is because I hate amlogic with such passion lol
<deskwizard> anyhoo...
<deskwizard> have you tried those commands ?
<Emaranhado> turning the damn thing on right now
<deskwizard> perfect, I'll be around, lets learn :)
<Emaranhado> I had it all disassembled hoping to have some breakthrough
<Emaranhado> nice
<Emaranhado> thanks mate =D
khuey___ is now known as khuey|away
<deskwizard> no worries, I meant to learn more about linux-sunxi, android is becoming too much a pain in my a..
khuey|away is now known as khuey___
<deskwizard> Emaranhado, what OS are you running ?
<Emaranhado> well, my host OS is windows 10
<deskwizard> got a vm ?
<Emaranhado> but I have some vms with some others
<Emaranhado> yes
<deskwizard> alright :)
<deskwizard> mate 14.04 here
<Emaranhado> Ubuntu, Debian, W2012
<Emaranhado> yay
<Emaranhado> lts ftw
<deskwizard> 15.10 kernel panics...
<deskwizard> some kernel maintainer not doing its job
<Emaranhado> yeah...
<deskwizard> and I have no clue how to do anything about it :(
<Emaranhado> neither do I
<Emaranhado> I feel useless in that aspect, really
<deskwizard> good, thats not why were here anyway lol
avph has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<deskwizard> so do i
<deskwizard> anyhooo
<deskwizard> virtualbox or vmware?
<Emaranhado> virtual box
<Emaranhado> thinking about going to vmware
<Emaranhado> I'm having some nasty issues with 3d support
<deskwizard> I seee
<deskwizard> well, not but you get what I mean :P
<deskwizard> no*
<Emaranhado> hahaha
<Emaranhado> just ran cat /proc/partitions and got some results
<Emaranhado> what I'm looking for?
<Emaranhado> actually, I think my problem with 3d support is due to my graphics card
<Emaranhado> AMD letting me down =/
<deskwizard> blah blah nanda /boot, etc
<Emaranhado> but nandx I have thousands
<Emaranhado> from a to k
<deskwizard> j or k ? :P
<deskwizard> lol
<deskwizard> theres your nand partitions
<Emaranhado> why so many?
<deskwizard> allwinner...
<deskwizard> dont ask
<deskwizard> :P
<deskwizard> (i dont know)
<Emaranhado> jesus christ, allwinner
<deskwizard> make sense for android but still, wow
<deskwizard> anyhoo
<deskwizard> which one is /boot ?
avph has joined #linux-sunxi
<Emaranhado> I dont know?
<Emaranhado> how can I identify it?
<Emaranhado> I mean, there isn't any written "/boot"
<deskwizard> pastebin me that I'll have a look
<deskwizard> It might be me calling it the wrong name
<Emaranhado> I have really no idea of how I can pastebin it D:
<deskwizard> LOL
<deskwizard> right
<deskwizard> OH
<deskwizard> google store -> wireless adb
<deskwizard> there you go my friend
<Emaranhado> nice!
<Emaranhado> most of those are not compatible
<Emaranhado> I wonder why...
<deskwizard> 'cause we want it lol
<Emaranhado> most likely so, hahaha
<deskwizard> or you can always type a line so I have an idea of what it looks like
<deskwizard> up to you really
<Emaranhado> gee
<Emaranhado> I can email the content for myself
<deskwizard> yeah even better idea
<deskwizard> :)
<Emaranhado> I'm really feeling stupid for not thinking about it
<deskwizard> you get used to it with time... hehe
<Emaranhado> is the A10s always that slow?
<Emaranhado> I mean, is a 3 year old SoC
<Emaranhado> but still...
