<DoYouKnow> hi
<DoYouKnow> I wish to do simple silicon-device-making without using harmful chemicals for etching. ideally, I would be etching by hand and using things like z-tape
<DoYouKnow> are there any online guides to such things?

<DoYouKnow> I basically want to make photodiodes
<DoYouKnow> so.. basically using the photoelectric effect
<SpeedEvil> Most people are AFK right now - wait around - maybe someone will answer
<SpeedEvil> (and I don't really know)
<DoYouKnow> ok

<berndj> DoYouKnow, look up jeri ellsworth on youtube. i think she managed to make a FET or two
<berndj> depends how unharmful you want; HF might be unavoidable
<DoYouKnow> I managed to make something that appears to show memristance
<DoYouKnow> from a used silicon wafer piece
<DoYouKnow> try that, more to the point
<DoYouKnow> but I also read something about silicon dioxide in general showing memristance

<_Sync_> DoYouKnow: you can simply etch using KOH
<_Sync_> that's not particularily dangerous or harmful
<DoYouKnow> what's that?
<DoYouKnow> potassium hydroxide?
<_Sync_> yes
<DoYouKnow> neat
<_Sync_> KOH will etch Si, if you need to etch SiO2, tough luck
<_Sync_> if you don't want to use HF use RIE
<_Sync_> +or
<_Sync_> apparently KOH will also etch SiO2 but the rate is really really low
<_Sync_> which makes it basically useless
