<DocScrutinizer05> hey, news spead fast :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> alas bidding is a PITA
<DocScrutinizer05> and even more so is shipping/pick-up
<DocScrutinizer05> you're maybe lucky to get some nice gadget, then it sits in Oulu and you have to pick it up until 04-17 the latest. And you have no idea what the guys offering to do that for you will ask for that
<DocScrutinizer05> they could ask basically any amount they like, since you don't have much alternatives
<DocScrutinizer05> travel to Oulu and pick it up personally
<DocScrutinizer05> also the product descriptions are pathetic. Generally you're prolly lucky when you get *anything* with the bare bones unit you bid for. No probes with scopes, no manuals, no sw licenses. when you're lucky the device looks moderately OK and even works
<whitequark> DocScrutinizer05: for that price for some of the tech I would not hesitate to get a ticket and fly there tomorrow
<DocScrutinizer05> indeed
<DocScrutinizer05> but I guess some big guys will rush in and buy en gros
<whitequark> eh, if you never try, you never get
<whitequark> I would think not; the big guys have grants/funding
<whitequark> which makes them care less about breadcrumbs like this and also more constrained in choice
<DocScrutinizer05> this "breadcrumbs" is an auction of ~1200 mostly high class electronic lab items that can go for magnitudes higher price at eBay
<DocScrutinizer05> so the big guys I'm talking of are those who professionally sell "refurbished" electronics for ~50% of original sales price

<whitequark> oh, so liquidators
<whitequark> yes, good point
<whitequark> well... assuming they want a nonzero profit, you can still outbid them, no?
