<rjeffries> I've done a couple of orders to Seed Studio recently, small stuff such as sensors, and then yesterday a few cheap solar panels
<rjeffries> Seed has an impressive system where they automatically send reports on your order status via email. cool beans. I also ordered a Bus Pirate
<wpwrak> haven't e-mail updates on order status pretty much been standard for the last 10-20 years ? :)

<rjeffries> wpwrak maybe so, but Seed updates you through the process at each stage. In any case, they are easy to do business with IMO.
<wpwrak> that's all that counts :)

<whitequark> can anyone suggest a good scope for $2000 USD?
Ayla joined #qi-hardware
<whitequark> preferably from somewhere like China to avoid the customs as much as it possible
rzk joined #qi-hardware
<blogic> whitequark: channels, bandwidth, samples ...
<blogic> ?
kuribas joined #qi-hardware
wej joined #qi-hardware

<whitequark> blogic: 2 channels, definitely need 48MHz digital, best if could handle 133MHz of PCI-E
<whitequark> so I guess that'd be somewhere near 300MHz
<blogic> and you want to get it as cheap as possible ?
<blogic> or as good as possible with max 2k ?
<whitequark> well, a friend of mine has $2k from the company to buy a new scope
<blogic> i have gotten good results with rigol units
<blogic> they are semi pro i guess
<blogic> not like a hameg or textronik
<blogic> but they work
<blogic> and are payable
<whitequark> well, I know about 1102e, but it's only 200m
<whitequark> *100m
<blogic> there is a 200mhz version
<whitequark> hm
<blogic> i used the 50mhz version with the 100mhz hack
<blogic> they work
<blogic> but dont expect it to be like a hameg
<whitequark> yeah, I know about the hack
<whitequark> I'll get one 1152 next month
<blogic> a bit off topic
<blogic> the other amazing tool that i started using recently is this
<blogic> best 150$ i spent in several years
<blogic> bit annoyed as the 16 channel version came out just after i ordered the 8 channel version
<whitequark> +1
<blogic> still its a great tool and safed me several hours twice already
<blogic> ok ;)
<whitequark> I like that a lot too. Also, native linux support
<blogic> yep
wolfspraul joined #qi-hardware
<whitequark> don't need a logic analyzer now, but when will, I'll definitely go for saleae
<blogic> hehe
<blogic> it helped me debug spi flash drivers for openwrt
<whitequark> ^ this one seems reasonably good
<whitequark> and there are $500 more to spend, e.g. for delivery and bribing of customs
<blogic> interseting
<blogic> which country doe it get posted to ?
<blogic> i mean where are you based
<whitequark> russia
<whitequark> and, yes, it sucks.
<blogic> ah cool
<blogic> what does ?
<whitequark> anything, but the postal service especially does
wejp joined #qi-hardware
<blogic> i just wondered about the "bribing" bit ;)
<blogic> ah ok ;)
<whitequark> yeah
<whitequark> I was dead serious
<blogic> i know
<wolfspraul> blogic: you contacted me I think?
<wolfspraul> here I am, happy, so... what can I do for you? :-)
<blogic> hrr hrr
<blogic> the best part is the happy bit
<blogic> i will switch to /pm if you dont mind to not flood the channel with of topic foo

<wpwrak> whitequark: do you care about memory depth ?
wejp joined #qi-hardware
<wpwrak> whitequark: the rigol CA series are fast but have only quite limited storage
<wpwrak> i.e., 5 kSa per channel: http://www.tequipment.net/RigolDS1302CA.html
<wpwrak> the B series is similar: up to 200 MHz and 4 analog channels, but only 8 kSa: http://www.tequipment.net/RigolDS1204B.html
<wpwrak> the D, E, C, and CD series all have deep memory. 500 kSa/channel.
<wpwrak> the D and E are successors of C and CD, with a higher sample rate. C and CD sample only at 200-400 MSa/s (2/1 channel), while D/E do 500M/1G
<wpwrak> C and E have two analog channels. CD and D have an additional 16 channel logic analyzer. it's not the greatest in the world, but it has its uses.

<blogic> xiangfu: ping
<blogic> the wpan.mk i gave you has a bug in it
<xiangfu> blogic, pong
<blogic> i willupdate it today
<blogic> jivs found a bug
<xiangfu> oh.
<blogic> 16:39 < blogic> the CONFIG_IEEE802154_DRIVER=y vs CONFIG_IEEE802154_DRIVERS=y looks like the candidate for the borkage
<blogic> (missing S ... DRIVER vs DRIVERS)
<blogic> might want to fix it in your repo. i am not sure where jivs pulled his tree from but assume it was qi tree
<blogic> xiangfu: the 2nd question is your 3.0 patches in patchwork.openwrt.org
<blogic> lars_: are you doing those patches ?
Artyom joined #qi-hardware
<xiangfu> blogic, those two patches is out date. I think I should send the new patches.
<blogic> ok
<Artyom> Hi Kristianpaul
<blogic> i will drop them from patchwork in that case if that is ok with you
<xiangfu> blogic, yes. sure.

<jivs> Hi blogic
<jivs> Have you had time to try for the missing modules
<blogic> not yet
<blogic> i am hunting a gcc bug
<jivs> ok
<jivs> i think you mentioned we can try to manullay insmod the missing modules.
<jivs> If you guide me I will try that..
<blogic> ok
<blogic> insmod /lib/modules/2.6.XY/*.ko
<blogic> call that like 5 times
<blogic> you will see errors
<blogic> but eventually all modules will be included
<blogic> its a crude and brutal way of doing it
<blogic> :D
<blogic> but it will work
<jivs> that on the toolchain? or ben
<blogic> ben
<jivs> okay, but mine is 3.0.0 , i think that normal isn;t it as i have new kernel..
<blogic> yes
<blogic> insmod /lib/modules/3.0.0/*.ko
<jivs> insmod: can't insert '/lib/modules/3.0.0/af_802154.ko': File exists
<jivs> giving the same error each time... tried 5-6 times
<jivs> i think it accepted the spi_atben.ko one,
mstevens joined #qi-hardware
<blogic> so they are all there now
<blogic> lsmod please and pastebin the result
xiangfu joined #qi-hardware
<jivs> ok
<blogic> spi_atben is missing
<blogic> do a insmod on that file and see if you get an error
<blogic> (potentially call "dmesg" to see it)
<jivs> ok
<jivs> [ 290.240000] spi_atben spi_atben: Setting up ATBEN SPI
<jivs> [ 290.250000] spi spi32766.0: ATBEN ready for mischief (IRQ 164)
<jivs> spi_atben now appears on lsmod
<blogic> cool
<blogic> in theory a ifconfig -a should now show you some results
<blogic> this is how far i got with my setup last week :D
<blogic> did not get any further
<jivs> yes, hardwpan0 is there
<blogic> hmmm
<blogic> not sure then
<jivs> what interface did u got?
<blogic> i used a atusb dongle
<blogic> and i cant recall what it was called
<jivs> okay
<jivs> not sure but it needs to create some kind of tunnel as well..
<jivs> anyway, it a step forward, i will play with this and report here if any progress...
<jivs> thanks blogic

<jivs> blogic, I am comparing this new ben with another ben which has werner's hacked kernel and dirtpan installed
<jivs> i am wondering if we will still need those IZ commands from zigbee to get dirtpan working..
<jivs> when i do iz assoc on the new ben, it says address registered.
<jivs> but the dirtpan command fails with error can't bind 802154 device...
<blogic> no idea
<blogic> you are now further in your venture than i am
<blogic> :D
<blogic> however i just fixed my gcc bug :D
<jivs> ok cool
<jivs> i will continue trying it, lets see how far i can go :-)
