<wolfspraul> I will now submit the update to linux-usb.org as you suggested
<wolfspraul> I will use the description from the table in the wiki
<wolfspraul> we can always update it later
<B_Lizzard> Hi
<B_Lizzard> I'm making a script for battery readings
<B_Lizzard> I see that I can get a reading in /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity but in what format is it?
<qwebirc47789> i have connected serial port to my PC at 115200 baud but getting garbage
<qwebirc47789> plz help
<qwebirc47789> I need to have serial port comm between nanonote and PC
<B_Lizzard> It doesn't go over 100 so I guess it's a percentage but it fluctuates a lot.
<xiangfu> qwebirc47789: it's 57600 not 115200
<xiangfu> qwebirc47789: also you need a ttl -- rs232 converter.
<qwebirc47789> i have tried 57600  also
<qwebirc47789> i have added ttl to 232 also
<qwebirc47789> flow control is none , databits -8 and stop bits 1
<qwebirc47789> i have opened minicom on nanonote and using ttyS0 to transmit data to PC at 115200 baud but getting nothing on hyperterminal
<qwebirc47789> while on oscilloscope both TTL and 232 level , output is there
<wpwrak> wolfspraul: (submit to linux-usb) great !
<wolfspraul> yeah sorry it took so long
<wolfspraul> you first mentioned it in late July :-)
<wolfspraul> nice system they setup there with the mail robot etc.
<wpwrak> wolfspraul: well, there's no rush :) (mail system) ah ? i never had anything to submit there
<wolfspraul> you can just email a unified diff and that's it :-)
<wpwrak> oh, finally a geek-friendly interface ;-)
<qwebirc47789> xiangfu plz help me
<xiangfu> qwebirc47789: hmm...
<xiangfu> qwebirc47789: are you use minicom in your PC?
<xiangfu> qwebirc47789: are you sure the ttl - rs232 works fine ?
<qwebirc47789> using minicom on nanonote and hyperterminal on winxp PC
<qwebirc47789> hwo to confirm that ttl - 232 is workign fine
<xiangfu> qwebirc47789: you can connect the RX and TX pin. see if it can send all data back to you PC.
<qwebirc47789> ok
<qwebirc47789> loopback is workign fine
<qwebirc47789> actuall yI have used 7407 hex buffer to raise the output level to 5v
<qwebirc47789> aybody can help me with serial port
<zyth> hola
<B_Lizzard> Any idea on getting the current battery capacity in %?
<B_Lizzard> I see that I can get a reading in /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity but in what format is it?
<B_Lizzard> It fluctuates a lot, leading me to believe that it's either not accurate or entirely incorrect.
<larsc> capacity should be in percent
<rafa> krafa
<Textmode> ...whats the bit-width of the nanonote?
<wolfspraul> bit-width?
<wolfspraul> you mean the screen resolution?
<Textmode> wolfspraul: the cpu architecture.
<wolfspraul> don't know enough about the various buses
<wolfspraul> the registers are 32-bit I would think
<wpwrak> wolfspraul: (buses) DRAM is 16 bit, NAND is 8 bit, uSD 4 bit.
<Textmode> whats the size of the int type? probably the simplist answer.
<wpwrak> Textmode: 32 bit
<Textmode> thanks.

<maden> hey
<maden> how long does a ben nanonote lasts with a full charge doing normal tasks?
<kristianpaul> maden:  what is  normal task for you?
<maden> talking on irc
<kristianpaul> from my experience around 5 hours with gmu
<kristianpaul> wait amin
<maden> what about with no GUI
<kristianpaul> irc?
<maden> CLI only
<maden> yes chat on irc from the cli
<kristianpaul> but using wich internet conection?
<maden> micro SD card
<kristianpaul> ahh
<kristianpaul> good point
<maden> lets say
<maden> text editing in vi
<maden> from cli
<kristianpaul> wifi pulls energy for sure even nomal tasks you do
<maden> how long dyou think it could last
<kristianpaul> i cant estimate i dont have idea about wifi power consuption
<maden> forget about wifi
<maden> :p
<kristianpaul> i cant
<kristianpaul> you already said it
<maden> put shades on I'm a men in black and I will flashs you
<maden> how long do you think it can last doing vi editing
<kristianpaul> hmm 3hrs?
<kristianpaul> the screen on have costs
<kristianpaul> s/screen/display
<kristianpaul> Ben dont use ink display afaik wolfspraul ;)
<maden> o
<kristianpaul> maden: what is your measure by experience?
<maden> m measure?
<maden> my measure?
<kristianpaul> about battery charge life
<kristianpaul> how long you did vi editing with tyour ben?
<maden> I don't own one
<kristianpaul> ahh
<maden> I'm thinking about maybe purchasing one in a near future
<kristianpaul> i tought
<kristianpaul> sure go ahead !
<maden> i'm jobless and broke !
<maden> and college books are expensive :(
<kristianpaul> you now what is PDF for? ;)
<kristianpaul> also a Ben is an intersting development platform
<maden> my college uses the latest editions of books
<maden> which is amazingly annoying
<maden> instead of using version 8, they use version 9, so we can't buy it off people who used it the previous year
<maden> it's amazingly sutpid
<maden> but yeha I got a job interview at costco soon if I get the job I'm buying a nano note :P!
<kristianpaul> indeed
<kristianpaul> :)
<kristianpaul> what you like most from the nanonote?
<maden> fists in my pocket - hah
<maden> fits*
<kristianpaul> :)
<maden> I already own a netbook but I'm growing tired of it
<maden> it's old and weak
<kristianpaul> :)
<maden> you?
<maden> why did you get one in the first place ?
<kristianpaul> because is copyleft hardware movement
<kristianpaul> i also ALWAYS wanted a free runnner
<kristianpaul> but was toooo expensive
<kristianpaul> and actually not so "open" as markenting said
<kristianpaul> so..
<kristianpaul> i saw it in the 2009 in a blog
<kristianpaul> dont remeneber wich one
<kristianpaul> the pictures was really asware
<maden> cool
<maden> so you've had one for a while?
<kristianpaul> qi something i remenberd tbut as time pass i forgot, until a friend tell me about qi-hardware and then WOW is real :)
<kristianpaul> a while some moths
<kristianpaul> 3-4 mpoths ago
<wolfspraul> maden: kristianpaul is a core Qi member now, for sure. He's doing a lot of case hacking with his 3D printer, and GPS (more coming in the future), and he's interested in Milkymist too. In everything actually, it seems :-)
<maden> oh
<kristianpaul> well not so everithing but Milkymist is awesome !
<kristianpaul> and ben is cheap and hackable so..
<kristianpaul> the case well is easy
<kristianpaul> is not so advanced figure
<kristianpaul> and well the floss 3D printing is there so why not use it ;)
<kristianpaul> maden: so.. , join us, all this is getting fun :)
<maden> i might i might :p
<maden> it seems very interesting i must admit
<maden> what'S milkymist?
<kristianpaul> a Sytem on Chip copyleft platform
<wolfspraul> maden: a free (gpl licensed) CPU
<kristianpaul> also a VJ sation
<wolfspraul> basically a replacement for Intel/AMD/ARM/MIPS
<maden> ohh
<maden> my knowledge of hardware is so very limited
<maden> it's far from being a field of interest of mine, unfortunately
<kristianpaul> what about software?
<wolfspraul> maden: what are you interested in?
<maden> software!
<maden> i dont know MUCH about it but I'm very interested in programming
<wolfspraul> well, pick a small problem that relates to your real life, and solve it with cool free software :-)
<wolfspraul> that's going to be hard enough...
<wolfspraul> if you like the portability of the Ben, go get one and try to solve the problem there. There are several starting points for software development on the Ben, I think the best are OpenWrt and Jlime, some people might say Debian but I think the device is a bit too constrained for Debian.
<maden> what languages are supported by openwrt ?
<maden> obviously C but what else?
<kristianpaul> lua
<maden> i heard about that
<kristianpaul> QT
<maden> obviously ! :)
<kristianpaul> SDL
<kristianpaul> python
<maden> python ?
<maden> oh yeahhh
<kristianpaul> thats for what i read things made
<kristianpaul> gforth too
<maden> I might just get a nanonote and mess around with python
<maden> that would be a cool agenda
<kristianpaul> :)
<maden> much more useful than this huge hard-cover agenda I've got right now
<maden> I wish I had C lessons in college, instead of java :(
<kristianpaul> ben is a starting point
<kristianpaul> for example in jlime you can install gcc easilly
<kristianpaul> and vi(m) of course
<kristianpaul> so you're done :)
<kristianpaul> ah thats not all
<maden> it would be an amazing linux experience too
<kristianpaul> you have multi tasking
<maden> thats cool
<kristianpaul> so you can have a console in one side and vim in the other
<maden> hah better keep your lines short, or font very small !
<maden> it must be hardcore coding on a such small keyboard,  no?
<kristianpaul> thats up to you
<kristianpaul> an the bottom there are some screen captures
<maden> how exactly do you install a different OS on the nanonote?
<maden> ah i just saw the installation instruction page
<kristianpaul> uSD or NAND
<kristianpaul> or both
<maden> I guess once you get your ben it's openwrt installed?
<kristianpaul> yup
<maden> and you don'T want that?
<kristianpaul> i like that
<kristianpaul> i just want some things else like jlime
<maden> ok I get your point
<kristianpaul> openwrt is really stable
<kristianpaul> and jlime have a bunch of software
<maden> ok
<kristianpaul> maden: how do you found the nanonote?
<maden> how I found out about it?
<maden> I'm not exactly sure, I heard about it ages ago. I think it was on slashdot
<wolfspraul> ah we need more blog coverage...
<maden> I don't own a blog
<maden> I don't even read blogs
<maden> I don't know any interesting blogs
